Vancouver Island has a climate in which many heathers do very well. Along with the well established cultivars, there are lots of newer introductions offering ever more opportunities for gardeners. Both flower colour and foliage colour can be used to advantage. With this in mind, gardeners soon come to appreciate that heathers are unmatched in their ability to provide delightful garden colour every month of the year.
The Vancouver Island Heather Society regrets the small but mighty group of members is disbanding March 31, 2023. Our website will remain open to middle of June.
We have had great fun over the years and proud of our accomplishments in providing heathers to the general public at our annual sales. We have had seminars on planting and care but it is now time to hang up our aprons.
Members and guests have had some wonderful outings to various personal gardens and commercial growers where we have soaked up information on the care and growing of many types of plants to introduce to our gardens along with our heathers.
Local nurseries now stock many varieties of heathers. You can see, in the gardens as you drive around, the winter heathers in full bloom giving a splash of color at this time of the year.. As these fade the spring and summer heathers will begin to bloom.
Our thanks to all of you who have supported us over the years.
Members may now submit their dues online via e-transfers. An e-mail will be sent out with the info required.
